DeAngelo Hall tapped to return punts, Randle El benched

Redskins Punt Returner DeAngelo Hall

DeAngelo Hall to return punts for the Redskins

Jason Reid of the Redskins Insider reported today that the Skins are going to elevate DeAngelo Hall to primary punt returner, sidelining Randle El.  Hall’s last punt return was in 2007 during his final season with the Falcons.  While playing for Virginia Tech, he returned 53 punts averaging 14.8 yards with 4 touchdowns.

Recently the Redskins have been using Santana Moss to mix things up but the organization is concerned he could get hurt.  Zorn said “it’s hard to put Santana out there every down and let him get knocked around.”  Moss will continue to add that extra spark to the return game, and Randle El will continue to touch the ball, but at lesser numbers than Hall.

This year Randle El has 11 returns and 11 fair catches averaging 5.2 yards per carry.

At the time of the interview at Monday’s practice, coaches had not informed the players of the planned move.

Chris Samuels Update

Chris Samuels out for the season

Chris Samuels out for the season

According to the Miami Herald Football Wire it is reported that Left Tackle Chris Samuels will miss the Monday night game against the Philadelphia Eagles.  Jim Zorn stated today in the Washington Post that they will be moving the 10 year veteran to the injured reserved list, a season ender for Samuels.

Two weeks ago against Carolina, Samuels suffered a serious neck injury.  Doctors have informed Samuels that if he continues to play, he may become paralyzed.  In addition to the injury, Samuels also suffers from Spinal Stenosis, a condition that narrows the spine and compresses the nerve roots causing pain in the back and limbs.  Samuels is currently complaining of numbness below the waist.  The condition is brought on by osteoarthritis or sustaining a serious injury.

Samuels has said that he plans to sit out the rest of the season but is three months away from making a decision on whether or not he plans to retire from football.

Levi Jones is expected to be activated by the Redskins to fill the roster slot.

Redskins Hold Press Conference To Announce They Are Still Sort Of A Football Team

Redskin's Jim Zorn

WASHINGTON—Washington Redskins head coach Jim Zorn held a press conference Sunday to reassure fans that, despite an inability to effectively execute their offense, defense, or special teams, the Redskins were still somewhat comparable to a real football team. “It’s been a tough season so far, and even though we are 2-4, we still have players, uniforms, Motorola headsets—all the components that technically constitute an NFL team, sort of,” Zorn said while grimacing and making a “so-so” gesture with his hand. “Sure, I was stripped of play-calling responsibilities by team management, and I really don’t have any clue who will play quarterback for us this Sunday, but I swear to you, in a weird, very convoluted way, we are in the NFL.” Placing his hand over the microphone, Zorn then spoke briefly with an unidentified man near the stage, and announced that, for what it’s worth, the organization owns the Internet domain name washingtonredskins.com through 2010.

Snyder is just going to have to limp across the finnish line leaning on his crutch, Jim Zorn.  Snyder, please let your new head coach hire his own staff.

Shanahan says “No,” may reconsider in the offseason

Shanahan tells the Redskins "No"

According to nfl.FanHouse.com Mike Shanahan, 2x 90′s Superbowl winner and recently fired head coach for the Denver Broncos, has turned down Dan Snyder’s offer to take over for Jim Zorn as head coach for the Washington Redskins.  Since clenching the title for worst team in the NFC East Zorn has been scrubbing up the resume anticipating the pink slip.  Shanahan said that taking over in the middle of the season rarely works out for both the new coach and the team.

Secondary coach Jerry Gray may be tapped at the Week 8 bye to take over for Zorn but it looks like right now the organization is “trying to give Jim every chance to turn it around. The move to [bring in offensive consultant Sherm] Lewis is to take more off Jim’s plate, especially the play-calling, because it is not working, and that is where Jim is spending much of his time. Now he can coach the entire team. Let’s see where that gets us.”

Yeah… Let’s…

Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow at the Black Sheep Lodge at 12 noon. Drink specials are $3 Bloody Mary’s & Sangria, buy 4 beer bucket get 5th beer free, and $2 off pitchers.

We found two weeks ago that the best deal is on the pitchers with a greater alcohol oz to dollar ratio.

In less time it takes Jason Campbell to throw a pass come on out and meet a fellow skins fan, have a beer, and some tots.
